At The Contemporary Canine, our goal is to place each Maltese and Shih Tzu puppy into a stable, loving, and lifelong home. This Refund & Return Policy outlines our procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of the puppies and fairness to all parties.
Reservation Deposits (Non-Refundable)
- All reservation deposits are non-refundable under all circumstances, except in the rare event that The Contemporary Canine cancels the sale before the puppy is chosen or delivered.
- Deposits may be transferred to a future litter only if:
- The selected puppy becomes unavailable due to health concerns
- No suitable puppy is available for the Buyer
- Deposits are not transferable to another person or family.

Refund Policy on Paid Balances
Once the final payment is made and the puppy is scheduled for pickup or delivery, no refunds will be issued for any reason unrelated to the health of the puppy.
This includes:
- Change of plans
- Allergies
- Landlord or housing issues
- Financial challenges
- Buyer’s remorse
- Because the puppy has been held exclusively for that Buyer, additional care and opportunity costs have already been incurred.
Health-Related Refunds
- Refunds are not offered for health reasons.
- If a veterinarian identifies a life-threatening condition within the 72-hour health guarantee window:
- The Buyer may return the puppy for a replacement puppy.
- No money will be refunded.
- A full veterinary report must be provided, and the Breeder may request a second opinion.
- The same policy applies to hereditary health conditions within the genetic guarantee period.
Return or Surrender of Puppy
- If the Buyer can no longer keep the puppy at any time in its life, the puppy must be returned to The Contemporary Canine.
The Buyer may not:
- Rehome, sell, or transfer the puppy to another party.
- Surrender the puppy to a shelter or rescue.
- No refund will be provided for returned puppies.
- Once returned, the Breeder assumes responsibility for the puppy’s care and rehoming.
Failure to Pick Up Puppy
- If the Buyer fails to pick up the puppy within the agreed timeframe:
- A daily boarding fee may apply.
- Failure to complete pickup after 7 days may result in forfeiture of the puppy and all payments made.
- This ensures fairness to other families on the waitlist and protects the puppy’s well-being.
Transport & Travel Fees
- Transport fees are non-refundable once booked.
- Any delays due to weather, airline restrictions, or flight nanny availability are beyond the Breeder’s control.
- Any rescheduling fees are the responsibility of the Buyer.
No Refunds for Growth, Behaviour, or Appearance
No refunds will be issued for:
- Adult size not meeting expectations
- Changes in hair length, color, or texture
- Temperament or behavioral differences
- Training challenges
- Routine vet care or bills
- No breeder can guarantee adult outcomes with 100% accuracy.
Breeder’s Right to Cancel
- The Breeder reserves the right to cancel a sale prior to pickup if:
- False or misleading information is provided by the Buyer
- The Breeder determines the home is unsuitable
- A health concern arises with the puppy
In such cases, deposits and payments will be refunded unless cancellation results from Buyer misconduct.
Agreement & Acceptance
By placing a deposit or purchasing a puppy, the Buyer confirms they have read, understood, and agreed to this Refund & Return Policy.
