At The Contemporary Canine, the health and well-being of our Maltese and Shih Tzu puppies is a foundational priority. We are committed to responsible breeding practices, appropriate genetic screening, and comprehensive veterinary care to ensure each puppy begins life with the strongest possible foundation.
This Health Guarantee outlines the terms, responsibilities, and expectations agreed upon by both the Breeder and Buyer in support of the puppy’s long-term health.
This Health Guarantee outlines the terms, responsibilities, and expectations agreed upon by both the Breeder and Buyer in support of the puppy’s long-term health.
Each puppy is guaranteed to be in good health at the time of pickup or delivery and will be provided with:
A licensed veterinary health examination
Age-appropriate vaccinations
Routine deworming
Complete health records
The Buyer agrees to have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours (3 business days) of pickup or delivery.
If a life-threatening illness is identified during this period, the Buyer must notify The Contemporary Canine within 24 hours, accompanied by written documentation from the examining veterinarian.
If confirmed, the Breeder will:
Accept the return of the puppy
Provide a replacement puppy of equal value from the next available litter
No monetary refunds will be issued.
The puppy is guaranteed against life-threatening congenital or hereditary defects for one (1) year from the date of birth.
Covered conditions may include, but are not limited to:
Severe congenital heart defects
Liver shunt / portal systemic shunt
Kidney dysfunction
Debilitating respiratory disorders
Other life-threatening congenital conditions confirmed by a veterinary specialist
If a qualifying genetic condition is diagnosed, the Buyer must provide:
Documentation from a licensed veterinarian
A confirming diagnosis from an unrelated veterinarian
Upon verification, the Breeder will offer a replacement puppy from the next available litter. The affected puppy may remain with the Buyer or be returned, depending on the medical situation and mutual agreement.
No monetary refunds will be provided.
Internal or external parasites
Ear infections
Hypoglycemia
Patellar luxation Grades 1–2
Umbilical or inguinal hernias
Retained baby teeth
Minor underbites or overbites
Viral illnesses contracted after the 72-hour window
Allergies
Behavioral concerns
Illnesses resulting from injury, neglect, improper diet, or environmental exposure
The Breeder does not guarantee adult size, weight, color, coat type, or temperament.
Internal or external parasites
Ear infections
Hypoglycemia
Patellar luxation Grades 1–2
Umbilical or inguinal hernias
Retained baby teeth
Minor underbites or overbites
Viral illnesses contracted after the 72-hour window
Allergies
Behavioral concerns
Illnesses resulting from injury, neglect, improper diet, or environmental exposure
The Breeder does not guarantee adult size, weight, color, coat type, or temperament.
For pet-only placements, the Buyer agrees to spay or neuter the puppy between 6–12 months of age, unless otherwise advised by a licensed veterinarian.
Proof of procedure must be provided to maintain the Health Guarantee. Failure to comply voids all guarantees.
If the Buyer is unable to care for the puppy at any point in the future:
The puppy must be returned to The Contemporary Canine
The puppy may not be rehomed, resold, or surrendered to a shelter
The Breeder is not responsible for:
Veterinary or medical expenses incurred after pickup
Illnesses caused by environmental exposure after placement
Injuries, accidents, or negligence by the Buyer
This Health Guarantee applies only to the original Buyer and is non-transferable.
By purchasing a puppy from The Contemporary Canine, the Buyer acknowledges and agrees to all terms outlined in this Health Guarantee.
